With an insufficient budget to defend all inhabited sectors from pirate attacks, *The Republic* formed an unofficial law enforcement partnership with The Company, allowing it to conduct its own *military operations under the UDC’s flag*. As part of this agreement, The Company is allowed to claim the cargo and scrap parts of every *pirate ship* it takes down, with no legal requirement to prove the pirate affiliation of the target.
